Chasewater
Chasewater OEC, situated on the shore of a large lake, provides modern accomodation for 84 with an additional camping field for up to 70, while the grounds are currently being extended. A wide range of activities including dinghy sailing, all-terrain cycling, climbing, canoeing and archery complements an extensive choice of cross-curricular environmental studies. High schools in particular can undertake a complete GCSE PE module in sailing during a residential week.
Orienteering, bird watching, ecology and transport studies are especially well provided for in the immediate area. Activities take place both locally and further afield in the Peak District, Shropshire and the West Midlands, with transport being provided by the Centre's own coach and minibuses. All ages and abilities are provided for and courses are individually planned in support of work in schools; the Centre is working towards eco-centre status and supports the Healthy Schools initiative as part of this. Menus are designed to support healthy eating and almost all food is locally sourced and supports Fair Trade principles.
