  • Olaf Hindmarsh

I  Co-ordinate Elective Home Education within Staffordshire.

My teaching career in Staffordshire has been across all phases of schools; specialising in Art and Design, I  have also been a Head of Year in both Middle and High school settings (pastoral head). I have some experience as a counsellor.

My interests include photography, gardening, DIY and local church. One of my goals this year is to be far more creative.

  • David Boyle
I have worked with Staffordshire LEA for the last 34 years. Initially I taught chemistry in a high school before moving to a middle school as head of science. Since then I have spent the last 20 years in advisory work first with primary science before moving on to support in primary design and technology.

Other facets of my role include KS1 audit, governor clerking, NGfL support, web authoring, NOF mentoring and of course reviewing EHE provision across Staffordshire.

I live in an isolated cottage in the middle of nowhere and enjoy walking, back packing, camping, gardening, reading and travel.

  • Anne Bird

My teaching career has included Primary, Secondary and Special schools both in England (Leicester, Lichfield, Cannock, Stafford, Tamworth and Newcastle under Lyme) and Canada.

I retired as head of Merryfields Community Special School in Newcastle under Lyme in August 2005 after ten happy years of headship. The school met the needs of students aged 2 - 19 with a wide variety of special educational needs, linking with and supporting local mainstream schools and colleges and district education services.

Retirement has brought the chance to have more time with my own family, old and young, and to 'indulge' in creative hobbies and travel.

I have enjoyed working for Staffordshire LA for many years and have a strong commitment to the rights and positive educational experiences of all young people.

This opportunity to work with families who have chosen home education is exciting and enjoyable.

  • Denis Birdsall

My teaching career was entirely with Walsall Local Authority (LA), where in due course I became the Headteacher of a Primary School.

Since taking up appointment as a School Improvement Officer, with Staffordshire LA, I have primarily been involved in supporting pupils, parents, teachers, Headteachers and school Governing Bodies.

My role has entirely focused on helping schools to provide the very best education for its pupils.

My personal interests revolve around my family.  When time permits I enjoy walking and watching sport.

  • Linda James

I have a wealth of educational experience drawing from work as a classroom teacher, a SEN teacher, a head teacher and a School Improvement Partner.

In September 2005 I attended a reception at Downing Street in recognition of the work of Heads and Deputy Heads in ensuring that children and young people receive the best start in life.

Other aspects of my work include training teachers and support staff and supporting schools and families in challenging circumstances. I am also a local authority instructor for Scipr (Strategies in crisis intervention and prevention). Presently I am seconded (part time) as an associate officer for school improvement within the local authority.

I have 30 years experience as a teacher, within mainstream and special school provision across key stages 1 to 3 and post 16. I have enjoyed two secondments during my career and have obtained an M.Ed (Manchester) and a PH.d (Birmingham).

My experience covers all aspects of school leadership and management, particularly where schools are undergoing change or are in challenging circumstances. I have a clear vision about the future of education, the capacity to encompass and respond positively to change and a strong commitment to improve the life chances of all children and young people.

My hobbies include skiing, gardening and walking.
