Registering NQTs with an 'Appropriate Body' marks the start of their Induction Period and is a statutory requirement for the following settings:
- maintained schools
- a maintained or non maintained nursery school
- a nursery which forms part of a maintained school
- a local authority children's centre
- pupil referral unit (PRU)
Academies, Independent Schools and other settings; by choosing to register your new teachers with an 'Appropriate Body' to take part in the NQT induction process your teachers will be confident in the knowledge they are working in a supportive environment to achieve a nationally recognised status.
The Appropriate Body's role includes offering support and guidance to NQTs and their Induction Tutors where issues, queries and concerns are raised, registering on the NQT NCTL database, monitoring consistency of provision, and the final assessment of NQTs.
