Staffordshire Agreed Syllabus review - consultation begins
At its summer term meeting, the Staffordshire SACRE (Standing Advisory Council on Religious Education) became an Agreed Syllabus Conference and requested that the Local Authority begin the process of review. It is hoped that this will be completed in time for implementation in the autumn term of 2009.
In order to take account of the views of all those who use the syllabus in community and voluntary aided schools, the members of SACRE have, through the Senior Adviser for RE, circulated a questionnaire in advance of their discussions. Members are keen to listen to all views and to produce a syllabus which supports high quality RE for pupils and teachers, and hope that teachers and headteachers will take the time to give their views.
Religious Education is the only locally determined subject on the curriculum. It is hoped that this will be an opportunity to build on the good practice already established in the county whilst taking account of developments elsewhere in the curriculum.
Knowing that schools receive many requests for information each year, the decision has been taken not to issue SACRE's usual monitoring questionnaires this year (to secondary, middle and special schools, selected primary schools and, on collective worship, to a sample from all phases) in order not to place an additional burden schools.
Members look forward to receiving your comments.
A copy of the questionnaire is attached here. All returns are welcome, and details can be found on the questionnaire.
