Finding an Eco-School

Yes, the process is all important! If those involved in the Eco-Schools scheme are to fully benefit from it - to take ownership of the process and to fully understand its significance - then it is no good simply copying what others have done.

However - and it is a big 'however' - there is a very real need to learn from others. When an Eco-Schools Action Team identifies its needs and starts to prioritise what it can do then it is very worthwhile asking Action Team members to spend some time researching the successes (or otherwise) that other schools have encountered.

If you are a primary school, are there other schools in your locality involved in Eco-Schools? If these are also partner primary schools of the same high school, imagine the power of several primary school year groups moving to a high school with their co-ordinated experience and understanding!

If you are a high school - then have a look at what other similar schools are doing. Most importantly, have a look at your partner primary schools. Your next intake may include some experienced Eco-Schools workers who are just waiting to build upon what they have already done.

You can search for schools in your locality - and farther afield - by using the Eco-Schools website. This link will take you straight to the page where you can search for other Eco-Schools. www.eco-schools.org.uk

Tip of the day! Why not band together as a group of schools and jointly work towards your Eco-Schools award? This is very useful for small schools and some of your committee work could be done online!
