Federations
A federation is a formal and legal agreement by which any number of schools share a governing body which is formally reconstituted. Federations can involve a mix of primary, special and secondary schools of any type or size. Schools in a federation continue to be individual schools and keep their existing category and character. They do not gain, lose or change their religious character, foundation or trust status through membership of a federation. There are currently 14 federations in Staffordshire:

Trust Schools
A Trust school is a foundation school which has set up a charitable foundation (or trust) to support the school. Trust schools remain as local authority maintained schools. Community schools can change to foundation status and then set up a charitable trust all in a single process. A Trust school manages its own assets, employs its own staffs and sets its own admissions criteria, as well as choosing which partners to work with e.g. businesses, business foundations, colleges, universities or community groups. There are currently 22 Trust schools in Staffordshire:
Biddulph Schools Partnership Trust - James Bateman Junior High School, Woodhouse Middle School, Knypersley First School, Moor First School, Oxhey First School, Squirrel Hayes First School
