Services to Middle and High Schools

Why your School should use our services
It is far more cost effective to borrow resources and exchange these regularly than it is to buy them and then have to replace them as subject requirements change or when the material becomes dated.
Example: Given that the average cost of a secondary school book is £10.42, a school can buy only 95 books with £1,000. With the same amount of money, it can borrow 425 SLS books for a year, and exchange 141 of these books free of charge during the year.
"Staffordshire Schools' Library Service saves me money. Without it I would not be able to afford multiple copies of fiction to use at Book Club and to shadow the excellent Staffordshire YTF prize. Subscription to SLS also means my non-fiction stock is boosted, and I am able to target resources more directly to changes in schemes of work." - Helen Emery, Librarian and Resource Centre Manager, King Edward VI School, Lichfield
- Our stock is professionally selected and continually updated; we buy from various suppliers to ensure the best possible coverage. Over 25,000 new books were added to our stock last year, providing you with access to the latest titles.
- With over 330,000 items at SLS Headquarters, you are guaranteed a wide choice of up-to-date learning materials.

How to borrow resources
If you wish to select stock personally, please make an appointment to visit our Headquarters at Astonfields. Alternatively, our Secondary Adviser will choose your books in response to a request by telephone, post or e-mail or via our online ordering facility. Provided that you wish to exchange a minimum of 20 books, we will deliver the items to your school and, at the same time, collect the stock that you are returning. There is no delivery charge.
