Here in Staffordshire we have developed a comprehensive system of support for our newly qualified teachers.

Staffordshire recruits approximately 350 newly qualified teachers each year. If you start your teaching career with us, you will benefit from our experience of supporting hundreds of other new teachers in becoming established in the profession. Staffordshire County Council provides support for NQTs in a number of ways, including:

  • An induction co-ordinator and adviser who are your first contacts and are available to offer support and discuss any difficulties. Contact NQT Advisers
  • Welcome meetings in September which give you the opportunity to meet Children & Lifelong Learning officers and other NQTs.
  • Networking opportunities across the County to enable you to meet other NQTs and learn from more experienced teachers.
  • A professional development profile to support NQTs in the induction year.
  • A comprehensive document for schools which provides advice and guidance about managing the induction year.
  • A dedicated website for NQTs in their induction year

Staffordshire offers a comprehensive training programme, which is delivered by dedicated professionals. The programme provides a wide range of development activities to support your needs as a new teacher.

Here's what our NQTs are saying about their experience in Staffordshire...

"I've really enjoyed my first year of teaching in Staffordshire."

"My induction tutor in the school was superb and it was great having a half-day off each week to work with them and learn from all the staff in the school."

"I had very good support from the County NQT team and found the Resources Centre at Kingston really useful. I don't regret my career choice at all."

Your induction programme will be drawn up after discussions with your induction tutor. The framework for this will be based on national requirements and the Staffordshire guidelines which are produced to support schools. Full details of the national requirements are contained in DfES Guidance to the Law 582/01, in the Training & Development Agency booklet 'Into Induction' (available from their publication line 0845 606 0323) or on the Training & Development Agency website
