Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)

This web site is designed to support Newly Qualified Teachers in Staffordshire and to provide Induction Tutors and Co-ordinators with essential documents. The site content is designed to develop during the course of the induction year, so please keep checking for relevant items.

The local authority (LA) is known as the "Appropriate Body" for all maintained schools and non-maintained special schools in the county. The Appropriate Body has a role in advising and supporting schools and NQTs in the induction process, in keeping records of NQTs, in monitoring consistency of provision throughout the county, and in the final assessment of NQTs.

It is important that you (Tutor, Co-ordinator or NQT) ensure that you obtain the regular e-update that complements this web site with further current information and news. If you are about to start work in a Staffordshire school ask for a Username from the school now.

Latest news is included below:

May 2009

The Masters in Teaching and Learning (MTL) is a Government-funded, classroom-based qualification developed to help teachers extend their teaching skills and abilities. This will benefit the children and young people they teach.

The qualification is being introduced in recognition of the high quality of education currently offered to children and young people in England, and the fact that the demands on teachers' knowledge and skills are increasing as the learning needs of pupils become more challenging, complex and diverse.

By developing an ethos of shared learning, the impact of the MTL will be felt beyond the classroom and should benefit the school community as a whole.

The MTL is presently available for NQTs teaching in the North West of England and those teaching in National Challenge Schools across the country.

For more information you can access the information from the TDA: Masters in Teaching and Learning
