Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Communities

The term “Traveller” is used to cover a wide range of identifiable groups some of which have minority ethnic status, who either are or have been associated traditionally with a mobile lifestyle.

These include Gypsies, Travellers of Irish Heritage, Eastern European Roma, Showmen, Circus families, New Travellers and Bargees

There are many diverse Traveller communities and their needs are varied. National statistics show that educationally Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils are the most underachieving in the UK.

Our Role

We provide advice and guidance regarding:

  • Access to and continuity of education
  • meeting the needs of Gypsy and Traveller families
