Important changes to Regulations that affect Public Authorities
Schools have received forms from the office of the Information Commissioner informing them that Data Controllers who are public authorities for the purposes of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 have to declare this fact by 30th Nov 2005.
The form requires you to tick a box declaring that you are considered a public authority, and return the form.
Schools are public authorities for the purposes of the Freedom of Information Act, and so you must tick the box and return it, either with your renewal paperwork, or separately.
The following statement will then be added to your Notification (formerly called your Data Protection Registration):
"This data controller state that they are a public authority under the Freedom of Information Act 2000"
